Dressage battle: riders' portraits

The opening evening of Jumping Internationale de Bordeaux promises to be an emotional one. The Sueno show will be followed by the dressage battle, where the elite of French dressage riders meet to challenge the codes of their discipline. Discover the 6 riders who will compete.

Marc Boblet

Marc Boblet, the only rider in his family, discovered equestrianism at the age of 12 and enjoyed a remarkable rise in the world of dressage. With his lead horse, Whitni Star, he represented France at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. That same year, he won the title of French Pro Elite Champion, before becoming runner-up in 2009. His career continued with top-level international performances, including the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen and 9th place in the FEI World Cup final in Lyon. With his expertise and talent, Marc Boblet promises an exceptional show.

Alexandre Cheret

Alexandre Cheret, a young French dressage prodigy, stands out for his incredible career and precocious talent. At just 20 years of age, he has established himself as one of France's great dressage hopefuls. In 2023, he qualified for the final of the European Championships in Budapest, a remarkable feat he achieved for the 1st time. Born into a family of professionals, Alexandre began riding at a very young age, first as a pony rider, before discovering dressage, a discipline that quickly became his passion. He took part in his first European Championships in 2017 with his pony Butterfly Dew Drop, before teaming up with his mare Bamona. Budapest marks their third appearance at the European Championships, first in Junior and then in Young Riders, reaching their first final in 2023. At the Grand National de dressage in October 2024, Alexandre Chéret and his faithful Bamona won the Pro Elite Libre with a score of 71.455%.

This rider confirms once again that the future of French dressage is assured.

Mado Pinto

Mado Pinto no longer presents herself to the new generation of dressage riders. For her, 2024 rhymes with victory, with her fourth French Championship title at just 21 years of age. She is the rising star of her discipline, following in her parents' footsteps. Used to riding Rafale du Coussoul de la Gesse and Hot Bit de la Gesse, it's now Sirano de Luxe's turn to make her debut under Mado Pinto's saddle. In 2022, the rider took part in the Medium Tour, made her Grand Prix debut in the spring of 2023 at Le Mans and took silver in the Dressage Pro Elite Jeunes Championship with the son of Sir Donnerhall. The start of 2024 couldn't have got off to a better start for the pair, who won the CDI 3* at Le Mans with a score of 72.500%.

Pauline Basquin

Pauline Basquin is a rider with the Cadre Noir de Saumur, which she joined in 2006 as a show jumper. In 2021, she turned to dressage and joined the “Dressage/Prestige” stable, making rapid progress.

Her track record:

  • 2017: Vice-Champion of France Pro Élite.
  • 2018 and 2020: French Pro 2 Champion.
  • 2021: French Pro 1 Champion.
  • 2022: French Pro Élite Champion and several rankings in CDI 3* and 4*.
  • 2023: 3rd at the World Cup in Lyon and 13th at the European Championships in Riesenbeck.
  • 2024: Participation in the Paris Olympic Games (6th in the team competition, 16th in the individual competition), where she put in a spectacular performance and got France dancing to the music of Stromae.
  • 2025: She gets the year off to a flying start with two 4th-place finishes at the Basel CDIW, and climbs to 12th place in the world ranking.

Pauline trains several horses, including Sertorius de Rima Z*IFCE since he was 3 years old, her current top horse.

In 2017, the pair became French 7-year-old champions, and the following year were crowned French Pro 2 champions.

In 2024, the pair proved themselves to be regular performers at the highest level, racking up numerous rankings: they won the Special at the CDI 4* in Le Mans, and improved their CDI5 record.

The couple were then selected for the Paris Olympics, finishing 6th in the team event and 16th individually. It had been 28 years, since the Atlanta Olympics, since a French couple had qualified for the individual event.

Today, she is France's top dressage rider and one of the world's dressage elite, currently ranked 12th.

Lena Thouvenin

Lena Thouvenin is a professional dressage rider. She discovered riding at the age of 4 and first practiced show jumping for several years before turning to dressage.

She twice took part in the World Young Horse Championships in Emerlo. Among her many successes, Lena won the title of French champion in the 5-year-old CC class, a feat that demonstrates her determination and expertise in guiding young horses.

She was also runner-up in the 6-year-old CC class and vice-champion in the 7-year-old class.

With her unfailing motivation, she took part in the Bordeaux Battle in 2024, and quickly got back in the saddle after her pregnancy to come and set the Bordeaux public alight again in 2025!
